Over the weekend, The Paley Center premiered The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop, a new VH1 documentary exploring the way hip-hop has impacted every aspect of American life. The documentary will air in a four-part series based on the book by Steve Stoute, featuring classic and rare footage, as well as interviews with hip-hop notables Dr. Dre, Russell Simmons, Ron Howard, Sean Combs, Mariah Carey, Rick Rubin, and more.

After the premier of the documentary, an esteemed panel of experts moderated by O Magazine’s Editor-at-Large Gayle King, came together for an in-depth discussion that focused on how hip hop and black culture moved to bring people together or “tan” America. Legendary hip hop icon Nas joined the hour long panel discussing the topics from his expertise in Music, along with Civil Rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton, FUBU’s founder Daymond John, director and former Yo! MTV Raps host Fab Five Freddy, and Author of the book Steve Stout. The actual documentary will air each night in parts, starting on Monday, February 24 at 11pm on VH1.

I think it was a good discussion on the current popular trends in society. The question I want to ask is why with all of this success why are our youth so under served. I love your work and all you've done and continue to do and all thats to come. I cant wait to watch the rest of the document to have a real response.
